Max William Smith Sr. Obituary
Max William Smith, Sr., 97, of Pittsburg, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Golden Living Center.

He was born November 28, 1916 at Pittsburg, the son of Harry and Stella (Broughton) Smith. He was a lifetime area resident.

On May 21, 1937, he was united in marriage to Ella M. Reece at Girard, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 25, 1995.

He worked for VanTassel Trucking for twenty-two years as a mechanic, retiring on January 1, 1982. Mr. Smith also farmed for many years.

Membership was held in the Countryside Christian Church, Baker Grange, and served on the Church board for the Walnut Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Max William Smith, Jr. of Jarrell, TX; two daughters, Sharon I. Kunard of Topeka, KS and Dorothy Mills of  The Villages, FL; a sister, Doris Klinock of Lenexa, KS; and 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother, Robert Smith.

Graveside services will be 10:00 am Saturday (July 12) at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.  Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday July 11 at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 1 p.m. to sign the register book. Memorials may be given to the Countryside Christian Church.  These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
