1921 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Esther Mayme Kuhel Obituary
Esther Mayme Kuhel, 93 of Girard, KS passed peacefully away the morning of Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri in the presence of her daughter and granddaughter.

Esther was born August 4, 1921 to Andrew and Sarah Odom in Augusta, Arkansas.  She was their fourth child and only daughter.

Esther moved to the DeSoto, Kansas area in early in childhood where she attended school up to the eighth grade, leaving school to care for her dying mother.  Esther then moved to Arma, Kansas where she met and married Tony Kuhel in 1942.  When he was drafted into the Air Force, she followed him around the country working various jobs in support of the war effort.  Her travels took her from Arlington, Virginia to Huntington Beach, California.  After his discharge in 1946, they moved back to the Girard, Kansas area.  They eventually purchased farmland, in the area. She lived in the same location for nearly 60 years.  In addition, Esther worked at the Kansas Ammunitions Plant in Parsons for many years before retirement.

Esther was a strong woman, with a tremendous amount of heart and courage.  She could handle almost anything with love, faith, and elbow grease.  Not everyone is lucky enough to have this kind of strong, beautiful example in their lives, and we feel truly blessed to have had Esther in ours.

Esther is survived by her daughter Eileen Hoover of Prairie Village, KS; granddaughter Sherry Nero and husband John Nero of Prairie Village, KS;

Brant Hoover and family of Ozark, MO; Robert Hoover and family of Monroe City, MO; Sister-in-law, Marie Murnane and husband, Joe of Girard.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers; her husband Tony; two infant children; and son-in-law Larry Hoover.

Funeral services will be held 1pm Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, Kansas.  Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.   Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the funeral Home.

Condolences may be left at www.friskelfuneralhome.com.  Memorials may be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and/or the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.  Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home Frontenac, KS.
