Robert Ray "Bob" Oertle Obituary
Robert (Bob) Oertle, 85, former Shelby resident, died July 21, 2013.
He was born on January 12, 1928, on a farm in Opolis, Kan. At age 15, he and his family moved to Shelby. Upon graduation from Shelby Senior High School he went to work at Empire Reeves Steel Corporation in Mansfield. Bob was vice president at the Central AFL-CIO labor body and instructed labor leaders at Ohio State University. During this time he was active in municipal, state and federal politics, including serving as a Shelby City Councilmember.
Bob retired from the steel mill after 30 years and moved to Harrison, Ark., where he owned and operated a campground. In 1991, he moved to Dunedin, Fla.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Esther (Tommie) and his grandson Timothy. He is survived by two sons, Terry of Ohio, and Ronald of Arizona; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four nieces and nephews.
His warmth and friendliness to all will be missed by many friends, family members, and close companion Marilyn.
Bob will be interred in Crocker Cemetery at Opolis, Kan., next to his great grandparents.
