MICHAEL JOHN MCNELLIS Born: July 1, 1951; In Gainesville, Fla. Died: April 21, 2014; In Morris Michael John McNellis, age 62, of Morris, IL and formerly of Gainesville, FL, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at Morris Hospital after a courageous battle against cancer. He was born July 1, 1951 to Marian (Lynch) and the late John McNellis in Gainesville, Florida. Beloved husband of 21 years to Fran (Simko) McNellis of Morris; beloved father and "Dad" to Byrony (Carl) Krauss of Casselbury, FL, Lindsey McNellis of Morgantown, W. VA; Donny (Sharon) Joiner of Ft. White, FL, Jeff (Jennifer) Joiner of Riverview, FL and Cindy Krober of Dresden, Germany. Proud grandpa of Tyler, Andrew and Alex Joiner. Dear brother of Robert (Jenny) McNellis of Philadelphia, PA and Kathleen (Doug) Edmiston of Ft. Collins, CO; fond brother-in-law of Joy Marcin of Jackson, MI; uncle of Erin, Caitlin, Aidan, Delaine; Patrick Edmiston, Molloy McNellis, the late Niall McNellis, and Mike (Jen) Marcin. Preceded in death by his father and nephew. Michael received a BA from Columbia University and a Masters Degree from St. Ambrose College. He retired from the US Navy (25 years) as a Chief Warrant Officer IV in 1997. He subsequently began working for Exelon (Com Ed) as a Training Instructor for a few years in the Quad Cities area before relocating to Morris and serving Dresden Station as an instructor until his retirement in 2013. He was a lifetime Florida Gators fan, Boston Red Sox fan, avid golfer who also enjoyed reading, travel, lighthouses and country music. As it was Michael's request cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial visitation will take place Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home in Morris, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to .
