Died: Aug. 4, 2014; in Sycamore, IL

Catherine Yanketis, "Kay", age 73, of Gardner, passed away August 4, 2014, at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore. Born June 24, 1941 in Morris, Catherine Elaine was a daughter of the late Irvin and Agnita (Papach) Lafferty.

She was raised and educated in Coal City and held past memberships at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City and St. Lawrence in South Wilmington. Kay always enjoyed having the kids in her home, and will fondly be remembered as the "Candy Lady". She took pleasure in gardening, making doilies and wind chimes, and was especially fond of her geraniums. Kay was a loving soul who loved everyone and made efforts to keep those special to her always in her prayers.

Survivors include her husband, Richard, whom she married December 21, 1979; children, Reno (Tina) Vignocchi of Coal City, Rena Vignocchi (Jon Sprimont) and Gina Vignocchi, both of Reddick and Jeff Yack (Jonathan Bast) of Elgin; two step children, Rhonda Yanketis and Ricky Yanketis, both of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Jenny and Julie, Rachel and Brittany, and Matthew, Andrew and Melanie; six great grandchildren, Tori, Addison and Kayla, Autumn, Bret and Ayden; two sisters, Ann Lafferty of Gardner and Cheryl Lafferty of Nevada; and two sisters-in-law, Barb (Ron) and Sandy (Danny); as well as her special companion, Snowy.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; and mother-in-law, Amelia Yanketis.

Visitation will Friday, August 8, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service, 7:00 p.m., at Reeves Funeral Home, 203 Liberty Street in Gardner.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Kay's memory to her family for their distribution.
