Raymond E. Holzhauer, 76, of Dwight, IL, died on Monday, June 16, 2014 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Morris Hospital, Morris, IL with his family by his bedside.

Per Ray's wishes, there will not be funeral services. A party for family and friends celebrating Ray's life will be scheduled at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac, IL is in charge of this service.

Ray was born in the Livingston County, Owego Township country home of his parents on April 28, 1938. He was the son of Raymond L. and Margaret (Leutze) Holzhauer.

He married Shirley Wilkey Jamieson on July 12, 1975 in Dwight, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley; one daughter, Bonnie (Rick) Kelly of Dwight, IL; two sons, Raymond Virgil (Chris) Holzhauer of Streator, IL and Ronald (Erin) Holzhauer of Dwight, IL; one step-son, R. J. (LaDonna) Jamieson of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rhea Ann Kelly, Cassie Kelly, Michael Ann Kelly, Kirstin Holzhauer, Bryan Holzhauer, Cheyenne Holzhauer, Ed White, Joshua White, Krystal Browning, Mark Jamieson, Bridgette Jamieson-Hill and Kyle Himes; and two great grandchildren, Jadin and Jonny Browning. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Cruise, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Billie and Alan Dillon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; a daughter, Debra White; brothers-in-law, James W. Wilkey, Jr. and John Cruise; and a grandson, Raymond J. Holzhauer.

Ray attended school in Owego Township, Cornell and Dwight. He graduated from Dwight Township High School with the class of 1956.

Ray started working at Caterpillar in Joliet in June of 1956. He retired from Cat as a Metal Working Specialist in January of 1987. After retiring, he worked for local farmers during the spring and fall and during the summer months he worked for the Dwight School Districts.

In December of 1998, he sustained a spinal cord injury as a result of a fall and had been in poor health since that time.

Ray was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose since 1966 and a member of the Dwight Danish Brotherhood in America Lodge since 1976. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, watching television, especially the Cubs games. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting up until the time of his accident.

He will be missed by his loving wife, his children, grandchildren, and friends.
