Dorothy V. Thorson Born: April 24, 1920; In Newark, IL Died: May 3, 2014; In Joliet, IL Dorothy V. Thorson, age 94, of Newark died Saturday afternoon, May 3, 2014 at the Joliet Community Hospice with her loving family by her side. Born April 24, 1920 in rural Newark to the late George & Stella (Anderson) Williamson. She attended Fern Dell Country School and was a graduate of Sheridan High School. She married the late Manley Thorson August 31, 1937 in Greencastle, Indiana. They farmed together in rural Sheridan and were happily married for 72 years. Manley passed June 27, 2010. Dorothy & Manley enjoyed traveling all over the country and also took their grandchildren to Florida and out west. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and cherished the times they visited her. She loved her flowers & gardening and was still at her home at age 93. She was a member of the Newark Lutheran Church, past member of the Newark Women's Club, Sons of Norway and had served as a Sunday school teacher. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Larry) Larson of Sheridan; her six grandchildren, Craig Larson of Aurora, Kenny (Kim) Larson of Newark, Lori (Jim) Updike of Sandwich, Scott Larson of Seneca, Cathy (Jason) MacCartney of Jacksonville, FL., Carrie Olsen of Orange Park, FL.; eleven great grandchildren, Chad Larson of Yorkville, Sammi, Mike, Katie, Lindsey Larson of Newark, Jackie (Sergei) Kutchinski of Chicago, Brooke, Clint Updike of Sandwich, Jett Crowe, Julie MacCartney of Jacksonville, FL., Mitchell Olsen of Orange Park FL. and her special neighbors, Norman & Jean Toftoy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Manley; her son, Gordon; and a sister, Darlene Johnson. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Newark Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Luke Emerson officiating at Church. Interment will be at the Sheridan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Craig Larson, Kenny Larson, Scott Larson, Jim Updike, Mike Larson and Clint Updike. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Larson and Sergei Kutchinski. Memorials may be directed to the Newark Lutheran Church, the Joliet Community Hospice or The Open Door. Arrangements are entrusted to the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd. In Newark.
