Earl L. Thompson, 77, of Morris, passed away Friday May 4, 2018 in Morris.

Born August 3, 1940 in Morris, he was the son of the late Gerhard and Adda (Jamison) Thompson. Earl was raised and educated in Morris. Earl worked many different jobs, from the Morris paper mill to construction to working on barges. Earl's accomplishment was as a pipefitter but due to an injury started a career as a barber. He graduated as a Barber Stylist from Joliet in 1980 and opened his own barber shop in a small room in the back of Clayton's Tap. He retired from the Grundy County Home as head of maintenance. He was the youngest of 10 children and in his younger years could be found fishing, hunting and taking pictures. He fixed and rebuilt many cars on his own, enjoyed shooting pool and playing cards with his family and friends. He was a wonderful softball player, even trying out for the Baltimore Orioles baseball team in 1960. He could be found spending time at the Morris river just relaxing or shopping at Walmart.

Earl is survived by his children, Roger Thompson and Tammy (Tony) Salazar; grandchildren, Alicia Thompson, Toni (Ryan) Pratt and Amanda Salazar; great granddaughter, Ariana Knapp; godson, Joshua Brisbin; siblings, Melvin (Evajune) Thompson, Eleanor Goodwin, Beverly Pulfer and Gerald (Barbara) Thompson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Jerome Thompson, Laverne Thompson, Wayne Thompson, Ellen Broderick and Glen Thompson; and daughter in law Kelly Novonty- Thompson.

A memorial service for Earl will be held on Sunday May 20, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with a celebration of life to follow at 3:00 pm, held at the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home located in Morris. A private family service and inurnment will be held on May 21, 2018 at Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Earl's name to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Joliet Area Hospice or Park Pointe Healthcare.
