Joshua M. Layne, age 36, of Morris, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Joliet Hospice Home, as a result of injuries received in a traffic crash a year ago.

Born in Melrose Park, Illinois on February 18, 1978, he was the son of Rex Sr. and Patty (Simmons) Layne.

Joshua graduated from Morris High School with the Class of 1995. He was a self-employed carpenter who worked for many builders and contractors in the local area.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. Joshua loved his family life and his special pride and joy, his daughter, Isabella.

Survived by his daughter, Isabella Layne; his parents; his paternal grandmother, Lennie Layne of Plainfield; four brothers, Rex Jr. (Dawn) Layne of Morris, Timothy (Stephanie) Layne of Morris, Adam (Melanie) Layne of Mazon, and Matthew (Amanda) Layne of Bourbonnais. Also surviving are six nephews, four nieces, several cousins, and many aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Marie Simmons, his paternal grandfather, James Layne, and an uncle, James Simmons, Jr.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home, located at 301 W. Washington Street in Morris. A Celebration of Joshua's life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home with Pastor Den Karrow of Fifty-Eighth Avenue Baptist Church of Cicero officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Morris.

Memorials may be made to a fund that has been set up at Grundy Bank for Joshua's daughter, Isabella, in care of her Godfather, Adam Layne.
