Rita Corinne Mathre

Born: February 16, 1932; in Morris, IL

Died: June 1, 2018; in Naperville, IL

Rita Corinne Mathre, age 86, of Newark, IL passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Season's Hospice in Naperville, IL.

She was born on February 16, 1932 in Morris, IL the daughter of Randall and Cecelia (Johnson) Thompson. Corinne was united in marriage on December 16, 1950 to Mr. Howard A. Mathre and they spent the next 67 happy years together. Mrs. Mathre was a longtime and very active member of Helmar Lutheran Church in Newark, IL and had formerly served for 30 years as its Choir Director. Music was the passion of her life and she was well known as a talented vocalist. Corinne had written, performed and recorded several of her own musical compositions. Thru out her life, and up until this past Mother's Day, she enjoyed playing the piano, which she played by ear. Corinne was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

Corinne is survived by her husband, Howard A. Mathre of Newark, IL; her children, Julie (Brad) Lay of Ramsey, IL, Bradley (Treva) Mathre of Newark, IL and Marlon (Sheila) Mathre of Yorkville, IL; her eight grandchildren; her eleven great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; her daughter-in-law, Sally (Bob) Berry of Bloomington, IL; her brother-in-law, LeRoy Johnsrud of WI; as well as, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Randall and Cecelia Thompson; her son, Gerald Mathre in 1999; her sisters, Bernetta (William) House, Janice Thompson and her identical twin sister, Carol Johnsrud.

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Helmar Lutheran Church, 11935 Lisbon Road, Newark, IL with Pastor Steve Lombardo, officiating. Interment will follow in the Helmar Lutheran Cemetery, Newark, IL. Friends visited from 9:00 AM until the Hour of Service on Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Church in Newark, IL.
