Died: Aug. 9, 2014; in Dwight, IL

Eleanor L. Phillips, age 90, of Coal City, passed away Saturday morning August 9, 2014, at Heritage Health of Dwight.

Born August 14, 1923, in Mazon, Eleanor was a daughter of the late Forrest and Louella (Steinberger) DeGrush. She was raised and educated in Mazon and Coal City, and in 1947, Eleanor married John F. Phillips in Coal City. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City and worked as a caterer for Kit and Dahl Catering.

Eleanor will be remembered for her love of playing cards and cooking, and cherished by her canine friend Abbey.

Survivors include her sons Bob "Bubba" Phillips and Terry Phillips, and two brothers: Eugene "Peewee" DeGrush and Howard "Shorty" DeGrush, all of Coal City,and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as special friends who she played cards with.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Vernon (Dorothy) DeGrush, Hap (Louise) DeGrush, Barney (Jen) DeGrush, Wayne DeGrush, Kenneth "Curley" (Lucille) DeGrush and Lyle (Dorothy) DeGrush; two sisters: Evelyn Wendell and Gladys (Warren) Trotter and three sisters-in-law: Addy DeGrush, Margaret DeGrush and Mabel DeGrush.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Reverend Robert Noesen from Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City will officiate. Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Eleanor's memory to her family for distribution to local charities of their choosing.
