Amy Hickson

Dr. Amy B. Hickson of Albuquerque, New Mexico died December 13, 2013 following a long-term illness. She was 57.

Amy grew up in Mount Gilead, Ohio. She was Mount Gilead High School valedictorian in 1974, president of her senior class, and active in drama and GAA. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology with honors from Bryn Mawr College in 1978. Amy earned her medical degree from the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine in 1982. Following the completion of a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Cincinnati, where she served as Chief Resident, Amy received board certification in Family Medicine and was appointed to Lovelace Health System in Albuquerque. At Lovelace, she practiced family medicine for the balance of her career. Amy enjoyed music and photography, and, with her longtime partner JE Townley, she traveled frequently to photograph the scenery of the American southwest including many national parks.

Amy is survived by a sister, Sarah Hickson de Salazar, of Portland, Oregon, a brother, David James Hickson, Jr. of Sandy Spring, Maryland, an uncle, William L. Smith, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and several cousins. She is also survived by nephews David, Alejandro and Carlos Salazar and James Laknahour, nieces Meredith and Jessamine Hickson, and grand-niece and grand-nephew Arianna and Mason Laknahour. She was predeceased by her parents Dr. and Mrs. D. James Hickson of Mount Gilead, and by a sister, Dr. Holly Hickson.

A memorial service will be held at Rivercliff Union Cemetery at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 10, 2014; all friends are welcome to attend. Donations in her memory can be made to the National Park Foundation (www.nationalparks.org).
