Marion Ray "Pappy" Nicholson(1916 - 2012)

Marion Ray "Pappy" Nicholson, age 96 of Cardington, died Saturday afternoon December 22, 2012 surrounded by his family at Grady Memorial Hospital, Delaware. He was born September 9, 1916 in Meigs County, Ohio to Marion Arhood and Claire (Sansbury) Nicholson.

He served his country in the United States Army Company B 504th Military Police Battalion during World War II during which time he guarded President Roosevelt. He later was a block mason for Central Masonry and he had resided in the Cardington area since 1968 coming from Columbus. He was a member of Christ the King Community Church of Chesterville, Masonic Lodge F&AM of Bucyrus, and the American Legion Post #710 of Marengo.

Marion was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed watching football and almost all sports, bowling, and traveling. He was also an avid OSU Buckeye fan.

Left to cherish his memory is his sons, Marion Edward Nicholson of Marengo and Dallas (Cynthia) Kinder Jr. of Cardington; daughters, Marzetta (Tommy) Chafin of Cardington and Belinda (Brian) Tobias of West Jefferson; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 7 great- great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews..

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Marcella on May 22, 2012, grandson Dallas "Scott" Kinder III, brothers Wade, Earnest "Wig" and "Dutch" Nicholson and a sister Evelyn.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday December 26th from 4 - 8 pm at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury and where funeral services will be held Thursday December 27th at 1:00 pm with Pastor Lucian Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors provided at graveside.
