Gerry Mullett, age 74, of Mount Gilead, died unexpectedly, though peacefully, Monday afternoon, December 10, 2012, while riding home after a luncheon with her friends.
On April 9, 1938, Gerry was born in Youngstown, Ohio, the third of four children of the late Stanley and Zala (Anderson) Davis. She was raised in Struthers, Ohio, where she graduated from Struthers High School in the Class of 1956.
Shortly following her graduation, in the summer of 1956, Gerry met a young man, David Mullett, at the beach at Pymatuning State Park. Quickly they knew they were meant to be together and married April 9, 1960, at the Presbyterian Church in Struthers. Together they shared over fifty two wonderful years of marriage, and lovingly raised four children.
In February of 1963, Gerry and Dave moved to Mount Gilead, Ohio, for his work with Ohio Edison, just before their first child was born. After raising their children, Gerry began working as a secretary at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Gilead, later at the Trinity United Methodist Church, and following her love of reading, she retired from the Mount Gilead Public Library in 2005.
A woman of faith, Gerry was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Gilead, where she also served as deacon and on numerous other committees. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Girl Scouts of Mount Gilead.
Gerry had countless interests. With a love for traveling, she and Dave enjoyed loading their motor home to travel to see their children and grandchildren in Georgia and Texas or to visit Myrtle Beach. Many long weekends were spent at the Pymatuning cottage where she and the family rested, played Bingo, loved and laughed. Gerry and Dave enjoyed several cruises, and especially enjoyed a recent Amtrak train ride from Toledo to the Grand Canyon with a side trip to Las Vegas. She always looked forward to trips to the casino with her family and friends so she could play her penny and nickel video slot machines.
An excellent cook, there was never a bad meal that came from Gerry‚s kitchen. She enjoyed making every type of soup you could imagine, and had a special touch when baking pies. She especially loved being surrounded by her family, and cherished every moment of their special family get togethers.
One of a kind, Gerry was one of the most thoughtful, loving, caring and generous people you could have ever met.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Dave Mullett of Mount Gilead; four children: Alan (Bridget) Mullett of Marietta, Georgia, Denise (Jodie) Shafer of Ashley, Gail Deming of Midland, Texas, and Brenda Mullett of Mount Gilead; ten grandchildren: Dean, Allison, Hope and Jack Mullett, Drew and Bailey Shafer, and Richard „Ricky‰ (Sarah), Elizabeth, Elton and Matthew Deming; two great-grandchildren: Sophia and Seth; two sisters: Joelyn Wagner of Poland, Ohio, and Patricia (Robert „Rip‰) Repasky of Struthers, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jackie Davis.
The Mullett family will greet friends from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Memorial services honoring her life will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 55 N. Cherry St., Mount Gilead, with Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Mori officiating. Burial services will be observed privately by her family in Rivercliff Cemetery in Mount Gilead.
