Lucinda G." Cynde " Russell, age 89 of Cardington, died Wednesday morning February 20, 2013 at the Kindred Health Care Facility in Marion. She was born on January 28, 1924 to the late Garnet H. and Ivah G. (Crist) Benedict in Gary, Indiana.
Lucinda was a 1942 graduate of Edison High School in Gary, Indiana. She worked as a clerk in the Deputy Registers Office for 10 years. She was a member of the Jenkins-Vaughan Unit #97 American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of Union Veterans Tent #50, Ann Hill Chapter #81 O.E.S and the Scarlet Twigs of the Morrow County Hospital.
On January 11, 1943 in the Cardington Nazarene parsonage Lucinda married her husband, Ernest F. Russell and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1980.
Lucinda is survived by her daughter, Lonita Hook of Cardington; a brother, Ernest (Leona) Benedict of Portland, IN and a sister Alberta Hillyard of Kuttawa, KY.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lucinda was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Garnet, Walter, John and Basil Benedict and 2 sisters Vinnie Russell and Glenna Belle Wickberg.
Friends called Friday Feb. 22, 2013 at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. Legion Auxiliary services were held following the visitation. The funeral service was held on Saturday Feb. 23, 2013 at the funeral home. Dustin Hornbeck officiated at the service and the burial followed in Glendale Cemetery.
