Paul A. Witzel, age 76, of Mount Gilead, passed away Sunday morning, October 20, 2013, at his residence.
Paul was born on July 14, 1937 in Waldo, Ohio, the son of the late Delbert H. and Aural Lucille (Kraner) Witzel. He attended Mount Gilead High School. He was later drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany.
On June 15, 1966 Paul married Nancy L. Dowalter in Clintwood, Virginia. Together they shared over 47 years of marriage.
As a young man, he and a friend ran the Sinclair gas station in Mount Gilead. He then became a machinist for Hercules in Galion. It later became Peabody's then McClain Industries, from which he retired in 1999. Paul also farmed 81 acres of many crops and livestock for most of his life.
Paul was a very dependable, hard working man. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and had many fond memories of the family working on the farm through the years. When he retired from McClain, he helped Nancy take care of the family vegetable garden.
Paul is survived by three children: Sue Witzel of Florida, Michelle (Kenneth) Jordan of Mansfield, Melanie (Bill) Snyder of North Canton; five grandchildren: Felicia Jordan of Cincinnati, Paul and Samuel Jordan of Mansfield, Shelby and Charlie Snyder of North Canton; two sisters: Phyllis Jiles of Mount Gilead, Joyce Laughlin of Pennsylvania; and a half brother, David (Rosemary) Witzel of Pennsylvania.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Richard Witzel, and a sister, Janet Whipple.
