Shirley A. Reed, age 68 of Mount Gilead and formerly of Cardington, died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on June 6, 1945 in Pikeville, KY to the late Walker and Lillie ( Lewis ) Rose.
On October 20, 1962 in Pikeville, KY Shirley married Paris Reed and he preceded her in death on August 27, 2006.
Shirley worked for over 25 years at the Freeway Inn at State Route 95 and I-71, serving many people and making many friends over the years. She was heavily involved in her children's lives and loved spending time and looking after her grandchildren as well.
Shirley is survived by 2 children: Paris Lee Reed Jr. and Regina Sherman both of Cardington; 3 sisters: Kathleen Burke of Paintsville, KY, Mary Helen Hopkins of Owensboro, KY and Ellarea Epling of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Williamson; two great-granddaughters; brother, James Rae Rose, 1 sister, JoAnne Eastep and 3 infant brothers.
Friends may call Monday November 4, 2013 from 9:30 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 AM at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. Shirley's nephew Pastor Danny Joe Honeycutt will officiate and her burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery.
