Virginia Victorine "Billie" Smith, of Chesterville, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 5, 2013, at Morrow Manor Nursing Home. She was 95 years of age.

On October 31, 1917, she was born in Franklin Township of Morrow County, the youngest of two daughters of the late Ward W. and Esther (Trowbridge) Peoples.
A lifelong resident of Chesterville, Billie grew up next to and attended school with her husband to be, Earl "Irish" Smith. They were married on July 12, 1935. During their 60 years of marriage, they farmed together and traveled extensively. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1996.
Billie was a member of the Evelyn Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and attended Chesterville United Methodist Church.
She will be missed by her daughter, Patricia Ebersole of Chesterville; two sons: Dr. Gary L. (Lois) Smith of Lexington, Kentucky, and Jack (Joyce) Smith of Plattsburg, Missouri; four grandchildren: Jeff (Linda) Ebersole, Emily J. Smith, Greg (Stacey) Smith, and Gina Smith; five great-grandchildren: Luke and Logan Ebersole, Mason, Katelyn and Gracie Smith; a sister-in-law, Margaret Jagger of Mount Gilead; and several nieces and nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Billie was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Ireland; and son-in-law, Ernie Ebersole.
Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring her life will be held at her graveside in Maple Grove Cemetery on Monday at 4 p.m., with Hospice Chaplain Dave Matos officiating.
