Barbara L. Smith, age 82, of Mount Gilead and formerly of Westerville, Ohio, died Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at the Morrow County Hospital following a several year battle with strokes.
On July 31, 1932, Barbara was born in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Russell Kinzie and Nina (Fletcher) Kinzie Ferguson. She was raised in Beavercreek, Ohio, where she graduated from Sugarcreek TWP High School in the Class of 1950.
After living in several cities, Barbara eventually settled down in Westerville, Ohio, in 1971. While there, she worked as an administrative assistant for the Glencoe Publishing Company, which later became the McGraw Hill Publishing Company. After over 15 years there, she retired in 1994. Then, in 2011, she moved to Mount Gilead, to be nearer to her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter: Kimberly (Michael) Porter of Mount Gilead; three grandchildren: Paul "PJ" (Kara) Porter, Andy Porter, and Kinzie Porter; a great-grandson, Jack Porter; and two half sisters.
Including her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by two sons: Gary Michaels and Scott Smith; and an infant daughter, Vickie Smith.
Her family will greet friends and hold a service on Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel. Burial will follow in Blendon Central Cemetery in Westerville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Blendon Senior Center, and to the Snuggled in Hope Quilt Project (for patients at Flying Horse Farms), and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead .
