Billy McManis

Billy C. McManis, age 81, of Mount Gilead, passed away at his home on Friday morning, November 23, 2012.
Billy was born on August 27, 1931, in Mount Vernon, Ohio to the late William Jacob and Mary Eleta (Smith) McManis. Billy spent his childhood in Morrow County, graduating from the Mt. Gilead High School in the class of 1950. After graduating from high school, Billy joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country for three years during the Korean War, bravely earning a Purple Heart. Billy also attended Ohio State University and graduated in 1958 with a B/A in Business Administration.
In December of 1952, Billy was united in marriage to Doris J. Holtrey. Together they have shared nearly 60 years of marriage. Billy worked for the General Motors Acceptance Corporation for 17 years after which time he worked in real estate.
In his early years, Billy enjoyed being outdoors where he hunted and also spent many years camping with his family. In his later years, he enjoyed being at his home where he cherished his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Doris McManis; his son Scott (Karen) McManis of Westerville; his granddaughters Stephanie and Jennifer McManis; his siblings: Marie (the late Ed) Keyes, Sharon (Tom) Cramer, all of Galion, JoAnn (Clyde) Robinson of Mt Gilead and his twin sister Betty (Henry) Newcomer of Marion and many nieces and nephews.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, infant Marlene McManis, Marjery Yarnell and Marilyn Tweddle.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 North Main St., Mt. Gilead from 1 pm to 3 pm. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3 pm with Pastor Ray Linn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Morrow County.
