Ray D. Ruehrmund died on January 29, 2013. He was born March 13, 1912 to Phillip Ruehrmund and Anna (Wolbach) Ruehrmund in Richland Township, Cardington, Ohio. Ray was a resident of the Fairfield/Hamilton area for 40 years.
He was the youngest of three sons, his brothers were Edgar S. Ruehrmund and Lloyd G. Ruehrmund. He graduated from Cardington High School in 1930. He attended Ohio Northern University and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1934. During WWII, Ray served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific and Australia.
After the war he became a Certified Public Accountant. He retired with 28 years of service with the U.S. General Accounting Office. Ray's wife, Glenna (Costlow) is deceased. Their two children are Dr. Ray D. Ruhrmund Jr., of New Carlisle, Ohio and Cheryl Haislar of Oxford, Ohio. Ray has 3 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Masons for over 75 years.
Looking back over the century, Ray, who enjoyed good health, due to daily exercise, said, "I was very fortunate that my parents took a great interest in the lives of their children. They taught us to be polite, respectful, thrifty, kind, and empathetic toward others. They also stressed the importance of a good education."
