Dolly Belle Phillips, age 88, of Mount Gilead went to be with the Lord Friday July 19, 2013 at her residence.
She was born Dec. 1, 1924 on Darling Road in Blacklick, OH. to the late Homer Lee and Esther Belle (Ayers) Hook.
Dolly attended Gahanna-Lincoln High School and graduated in 1942 from Marengo High School. She worked at HPM during World War II and then at the Edith Mae Hat and Dress Shoppe in Oberlin. Dolly was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, sketching, reading and listening to classical music. Dolly was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, American Legion Auxiliary of Post #97 in Cardington and Post #329 in Mt. Gilead, and an associate member of the Marine Corps League. Her Church affiliation was with the Church of Christ in Christian Union in Blacklick.
On June 22, 1946 in Mount Gilead, Dolly married Charles L. Phillips and he preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1999.
Dolly is survived by her children: Steven (Lynn) Phillips of Blue Springs, MO., Bruce (Beverly) Phillips of Walkersville, MD., Mark Phillips of Mount Gilead, and Jon (Carla) Phillips of Mathis, TX; six grandchildren; eleven Great-Grandchildren; sisters, Glorene Bannick of Broomfield, CO.; and Kathleen (Richard) Frye of Gig Harbor, WA.; and a brother Leonard N. Sagar of Marengo; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her brother Charles Sagar and sisters Juanita Thomas and Ramona Sagar.
Friends may call on Monday, July 22, 2013 from noon until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 pm at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. Pastor Joshua Melvin of the First Baptist Church will officiate and burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Dolly's memory may be made to the Ohio Veterans Home in care of Gompf Funeral Home.
