George Yeager Obituary

On the morning of January 29th, 2015 George Goss Yeager, 83, of Midland, Texas died. Goss was born in Midland to Wilbur Arthur Yeager and Patsy Goss Yeager on July 11th, 1931. From the very beginning they knew he would fit right into the family. Goss shared that unique trait of the Yeager's of never meeting a stranger. He always had a smile and a hardy handshake for friend and neighbor. No matter where he went - downtown Midland or a golf course in New Mexico - Goss always made his acquaintances feel like old friends. He grew up in Midland graduating from Midland High School in 1949. He served 3 years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in February 1954. During his military career he worked in the propulsion systems section (Corporal, Nike, V-1 and V-2 missile system), ultimately leading to the development of The Red Stone rocket. He attended The University of New Mexico and received a BS in chemical engineering. While in school there his good friend Hal Finch also from Midland introduced him to Sharon Terry from Odessa, Texas. They were friends for 6 years before they even had their first date. Goss and Sharon married on August 30th, 1962 and were married for 53 years. The couple settled in Midland. He opened a small office in the Petroleum Building and started W.A.Y. Enterprises in conjunction with his father and good friend Russell Estes. Goss worked 40 years as an Oil and Gas Operator. But he wasn't all work and no play. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the adventure of visiting golf courses while he and Sharon vacationed. He also studied and became a licensed pilot. Goss is preceded in death by Wilbur Arthur Yeager, Patsy Goss Yeager, and Wilbur Arthur Yeager Jr. Goss is survived by his wife Sharon R. Yeager; daughter Elizabeth Yeager of Austin, Texas; daughter Marian G. Yeager of Austin, Texas; his sister Patsy Hinchey Fitzgerald and husband Dan Fitzgerald; and sister in law Marianne S. Yeager. The funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday February 2nd at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Midland or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Midland for all their loving care.
