Leona Maxine (Caha) Toohey

Leona Maxine (Caha) Toohey passed away April 29, 2013 at the Air Force Village Retirement Community in San Antonio, Texas. Maxine, as she was known to family and friends, was born October 26, 1923 in Alliance, Nebraska. She was related to the large Annen and Caha families of Hemingford and Alliance. In 1942, she married Loren M. Toohey of Hemingford, Nebraska. After multiple Air Force and Exxon transfers around the United States, Maxine and Loren finally settled in Midland, Texas in 1974. Maxine then went to work at The First National Bank of Midland. Maxine and Loren enjoyed attending the local high school football games, concerts and plays. She also volunteered for many charitable organizations and she was a long time parishioner of Saint Ann's Catholic Church where she faithfully attended daily Mass when able. Maxine leaves behind her husband of 70 years, Loren M. Toohey. Also surviving her are four daughters, Sandy Hiner and husband Bob of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Loreen Schnakenberg and husband Bob of Coppell, Texas, Teri Manry of Pflugerville, Texas, and Carol Goehrs of Houston, Texas. Maxine also leaves behind her sister Mary Jo Hamilton of Minot, North Dakota, grandchildren, Sean Fey and wife Merri Jo, Wendy Avey and husband Cary, and Christina Manry, plus great grandchildren, Zach Fey and Gage Avey, niece Linda Mielke and husband Dean, nephew Brent Hamilton, and her beloved cat, Prissy. Maxine will be buried at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas. Memorial services at Saint Ann's Catholic Church in Midland will be announced at a future date.
