Mitchell Lee Brandt

Mitchell Lee Brandt, 24, went to his eternal home September 25, 2012, in Midland surrounded by his family. Born January 7, 1988, he was adopted at birth to Tom & Linda Brandt. Following a surprise pregnancy, his Mom & Dad gave him a sister, Kirsten Grace Brandt, 9 months later. Mitchell publicly professed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior in March of 1996, & was baptized along with his sister at First Baptist Church in Menard, Texas on Easter Sunday of that same year. He graduated from Midland Christian High School, & played on JV basketball & Varsity football teams. The highlight of his junior year was winning the state football championship. He enjoyed his family, golf, & vacations. Mitchell learned to ride & work cattle on the Menard ranch at a very young age, & became an avid bird & deer hunter. He accompanied almost all of the exotic game hunts led on the ranch. Mitchell was a collector of friends. He didn't know a stranger, & didn't forget old friends either. Mitchell kept up with friends from Hillander, Midland Christian, T-Bar M camp, & was attending Sul Ross University Geology program the semester before he was diagnosed with a rare acute Leukemia. He had plans to finish school, and always insisted on working while he was a student. Mitchell endured a 7-month battle with Leukemia, including treatment at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, & a bone marrow transplant. Choosing never to complain about his condition, Mitchell was an inspiration to everyone around him. He always had an incredible attitude and kept the doctors and nurses laughing. Left to cherish Mitchell's memory are his parents, Tom & Linda Brandt; sister, Kirsten & her fiancé, Andrew Kelley; grandad, Jim Essman, Midland; grandparents, Tom & Mary Brandt, Houston; Tate & Jana Brandt; cousins, Logan, Carter, Jared, Glen Rose; cousin, Michael Brooks & wife, Mary, Oklahoma City; Angela & Greg Spencer; & cousins, Michael, Emily, Midland; cousin, Natalie Spencer Guinn, Houston; Jimmy & Harriet Essman, & cousins, Jimmy, Macy, Smith, Midland; Flo Curry, Midland; Jeff & Shelly Butler & cousin, Madi, San Antonio; & Jon & Lisa Hardaway, Midland. Mitchell was preceded in death by grandparents, John and LouAnne Dalton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and aunt, Brenda Lee Brooks of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mitchell along with his family want to thank his many caregivers; grandparents in Houston, his aunt Shelly, a gifted nurse, his best friend Asa Bynum, and Tricia Cagle/Stonegate Prayer Team. A memorial service and reception will be held at Stonegate Fellowship on Friday, September 28 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to Hospice of Midland, or MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Memorial for "Mitchell L. Brandt", Houston, TX 77210. www.mdanderson.org/gifts.
