Patricia McGill Harris

Patricia McGill Harris passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of July 14, 2014, following a courageous, four-year struggle with cancer, her husband George at her side every step of the way. Pat was born to Samuel Aaron McGill and Clara Fern Phillips in Odessa, Texas, on April 22, 1951. She grew up in Odessa, McCamey, and Andrews, attended Andrews High School, and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Midland in 1969. Pat began her career in Chicago at Michigan Chemical Company, where her son Bryan was born in 1970. She returned to her West Texas roots in 1972 and worked for Service Title Company and the City of Midland, then Marathon Oil Company for sixteen years and Estoril Oil Company. It was at Marathon that Pat met and fell in love with a young Aggie engineer, George Harris, a 1974 graduate of Texas Military Institute in San Antonio, Texas. They were married in Hawaii on April 4, 1988. Pat and George could always be found at Texas A&M football games in the fall, tailgating in the alumni parking lot. Pat had a great appreciation for Aggie history and traditions, and education in general. Her endless hours of reading, writing, typing reports and lending her expertise and tireless support on special projects helped assure high school and college diplomas for numerous family members and friends. Pat was a member of Kelview Heights Baptist Church, and her daily life was the best Christian example to all. She was extraordinarily compassionate and a wonderful storyteller. She had a tremendous love for animals, birds and dogs especially, and was extremely devoted to her family. Pat was like a second mother to her nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Some of her greatest joys in life were working with her son Bryan in the family business and helping raise his daughters-her precious granddaughters-Brittney and Kristin. She was blessed in 2011 with a great grandson, Miles Mancha. Pat and George traveled extensively, to San Antonio to visit family, Chicago to rescue greyhounds, Martha's Vineyard, Kona Village in Hawaii, ski trips throughout the West, cruises in the Caribbean-always with family members in tow. Pat's sense of adventure was contagious. Pat is predeceased by her parents and sister, Leigh Anne "Queenie" McGill, and niece, Georgina Patrice Gates. Pat is survived by her loving husband, George; son, Bryan Richardson; granddaughter Brittney Cook Mancha and her fiancé Troy Burleson; granddaughter Kristin Richardson; and great grandson Miles Mancha, all of Midland; by her sister, Cindy McGill Reeves and her children, Charissa and Wes Reeves and his wife Breanne; and her brother Sam McGill and his wife Becca, also all of Midland; by her sister-in-law and wonderful caregiver, Stephanie Harris Wilson of La Vernia; and niece Kimberly Gates of Austin; by sister-in-law Melanie Vavrek and her husband Jerry of Midland; nephew Adam Vavrek of Boston and nephew Zachary Vavrek and his wife Cara of Alexandria, Virginia; by sister-in-law, Susan Clements Negley of San Antonio, nephew William Negley and his wife Kelly of Washington, DC, nephew Jamie Negley of Austin, and niece Suzanne Negley of Austin; and by brother-in-law Jamie Clements and his wife Diana of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and her nieces Ashley Clements of Boston, Madison Brecevich and her husband Antonio of Dublin, Ireland, Austen Clements of New York City, Noe Clements of Paris, France, and Carolina Clements of Austin, Texas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17, from 6:00 8:00 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland. The burial will take place on Friday, July 18, at 9:30 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Ellis Funeral Home, with a reception afterwards.
