Robert A. Cullen

Robert "Bob" Cullen passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, November 15, 2013. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 5:00-7:00pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 1:00pm at Crestview Baptist Church of Midland with Dr. John Gerlach officiating. Bob was born on June 11, 1929 in Rector, Arkansas to Earl and Marie Cullen. He married the love of his life, Josephine Lee Holt, on May 19, 1950 in Odessa, Texas. He served his country during the Korean conflict with the U.S. Army in San Francisco. After his discharge, he returned with his family to Midland, Texas where he continued his career in the oil and gas industry. In 1955, he joined Whipstock, Inc, a directional drilling company, as an accountant. During the next 16 years, he continued his career as CFO of Whipstock, traveling to many parts of the world to open branch offices. In 1971, Whipstock was acquired by Petrolane and at that time, Whipstock had offices in every free oil and gas producing country in the world. He continued his career with Petrolane until the company later was renamed Eastman Whipstock. In 1976, he left Eastman Whipstock and joined Ike Lovelady, Inc, as CFO to pursue oil and gas exploration until he retired in 1983. Bob gained many life-long friends during his 28 years with the industry that will miss him greatly. `As much as he loved the oil and gas industry Robert's greatest joy was spending quality time with his wife, children, and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Josie Cullen of Midland; son, Steve Cullen and wife Bayta of Midland; daughter, Teri Cullen Guttery and husband Hal of Dallas; daughter, Joy Cullen Irving and husband Ray of Midland; grandchildren, Carson Cullen and wife Lauren and their son Colter; Claire Guedelhoefer and husband Sabastian and their baby on the way; Ryan Miller; Katy Birk and husband Chas and their baby on the way; Blair Carpenter and husband Dylan; Megan Dupriest and husband Ryan and their baby on the way; and two sisters, Jane Faucett of California and Sue Groning of Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to Crestview Baptist Building Fund or Hospice of Midland.
