Ruth Sweeton Grisham Aldridge

Ruth Sweeton Grisham Aldridge of Midland, Texas peacefully went to be with the Lord on November 29, 2013 from her home at Manor Park. Born March 9, 1918 in Wichita Falls, Texas to William Jackson Grisham and Callie Sweeton Grisham, Ruth graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1935. She attended Gulf Park College for Women in Gulfport, Mississippi and Southern Methodist University in Dallas where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and modeled for Neiman Marcus. Ruth lived in Dallas until 1962, when she moved back to Wichita Falls joining the Humble Oil Company to work in Human Resources. In 1966 Humble transferred her to Midland where she met the love of her life, Edwin Aldridge, Jr. whom she married September 5, 1971 in Fort Worth. Ruth was a "mighty Methodist" from birth and was baptized at the First United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls on her way home from the hospital by her grandfather, Rev. John Milton Sweeton. Ruth had dear, loving friends in Midland, Wichita Falls and across the country, who adored her great sense of fun. She shared her exquisitely honed, sharp and mischievous wit with all, never neglecting to turn it on herself as the occasion might warrant. Any note or letter from Ruth was always the first opened, because it invariably contained a cartoon clipped from the New Yorker magazine or an article or photograph from the newspaper with her annotation that hit home in the most hilarious way. Ruth is survived by her beloved cousin, William A. Guest of Dallas. In their later years, Ruth and Ed became "Moms" and "Pops" to Cathy Anwyl of Dallas. They also, "adopted" the Lea Crump family of Midland who delighted Ruth and Ed with the honorific appellations of "Aunt Ruth" and "Uncle Aggie." They became fixtures at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas in the Crump home, and participated in most all of the Crump family milestones. There will be a graveside service at Riverside Cemetery in Wichita Falls at 1:30pm on December 10th, 2013. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hospice of Midland, Hope House, or Manor Park of Midland, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made at:
