William Plear Stewart

William Plear Stewart, a long time Midland resident, died peacefully on November 6, 2013, in the company of loving family members. Bill was born on March 18, 1927, to Joel Justice Stewart and Lula Mae McConnell in Cass County, Texas. At the age of seventeen, Bill's family moved to Andrews, Texas, where he graduated from Andrews High School. He then served honorably, in the Unites States Army during the final days of World War II, as a part of the Allied force in Germany. On December 27, 1949, he married Betty Jo Waggoner in Oklahoma City, and they remained life companions for 64 years. Bill and Betty had three children - two sons, Steve Stewart and Bruce Stewart, and a daughter, Tina Stewart-Littlefield, who gave them great joy. Bill graduated in 1951 from Texas Tech University, and he remained a loyal and ardent Red Raider throughout his life. Bill was a geologist, and he spent most of his career in Midland working throughout the Permian Basin for Hunt Oil Company and Chambers & Kennedy. Upon retirement, he was District Manager of North American Royalties. After retirement, Bill devoted his time and energies to helping others through volunteer work at Friends of the Library, AMOS (Area Missions Outreach Services), West Texas Geological Society, and various other organizations. He was a longtime and devoted member of St. Luke's Methodist Church, and he took great joy and comfort from the Keystone Sunday school class. He also served as an usher, a member of the board of trustees, and the nominating committee. During the last year of his life, Bill spent his days with his family in Southlake, Texas, and attended Whites Chapel Methodist Church regularly. He continued to share time with his wife, who resides at Autumn Leaves of Grapevine, Texas. Bill is survived by his wife, Betty; his son, Steve and wife, Kristi of Houston, Texas; his son, Bruce of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and his daughter, Tina and husband, Hayden Dee of Southlake, Texas. Bill is also survived by his seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren - Lindsay, John, Jennifer, Katie, Plear, Blake, Matthew, Andrea, and Caleb. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 10, 2013, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Midland, with Rev. Kathryn Boren, officiating.
