Andrew "Andy" Dorner, 90, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Andy was born August 31, 1923 to Daniel and Emma (Kammerer) Dorner in Ballinger. Three days before his 19th birthday, he enlisted in the Navy and served for three and one-half years. He was a Seaman First Class aboard the Battleship New Mexico and was involved in 10 major battles in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal which is given to military personnel for wounds or death sustained in action against an enemy of the United State. On August 29, 1944, Andy married Bertha Voss at First Methodist Church in Winters, Texas. They shared 69 loving years together. After his military service, Andy went to work for Atlantic Richfield in Midland, Texas. He was a pumper and pipeline welder for 35 and one-half years. Andy and Bertha were members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Winters. Andy was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved to fish. He went deer hunting every year with his friends from Midland. Andy and Bertha had their picture taken, at the Ballinger City Park, with the original park Indian. They would have been married 70 years this August and had wanted to have their picture taken with the new Indian. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Dorner; and a daughter, Linda Sue Dorner. Andy is survived by his wife, Bertha; his daughter, JoAnn Ely and husband Terry of Lubbock; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Dorner of Austin. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Breanna Williams of Austin, Adam Dorner of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jace Dorner of Stanton, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Jordan Neill, Isabella Burrell, Atlas Dorner, and Ashlyn Dorner. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Lange Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger. Visitation for family and friends will from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Lange Funeral Home.
