Carl Ray Pannell, 71, passed away October 26, 2013 in Midland, Texas. Carl was born to B.C. and Mary Pannell on October 23, 1942 in Sundown, Texas. Services will be on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with Brother Bob Porterfield officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. As a young boy, Carl moved with his family to Midland, Texas and later graduated from Midland High School. For a short time, he was on the Sul Ross College bull riding team. Carl served his country during the Vietnam War as an electrician in the Army, thereafter, making a career as a cable television engineer. His passion as a young man was bull riding and anything to do with the cowboy lifestyle. He truly loved the West Texas way of living, spending time with his friends shooting the bull, especially if it had anything to do with cowboys, guns and good times. Carl enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and family whenever he could. Carl is survived by his three sons, Dustin L. Pannell and wife Christine, of Midland, Texas, Colton L. Pannell and wife Melissa of Aledo, Texas, and Nathan D. Pannell of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Sydney L. Pannell of Midland, Texas, Ryan L. Pannell and Katelynn E. Pannell of Aledo, Texas; sister, Shirley Fortenberry of Slidell, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Jim Morrow, Conner Morrow, Dick Venator, Les Fortenberry, and Christopher Davis, Honorary Pallbearer, Charlie Jezek. He is preceded in death by his parents, B.C. and Mary Pannell of Midland, Texas, and brother, Milton Pannell and wife Patsy of Lubbock, Texas. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Home Hospice of Midland, Texas or the . Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
