James (Jim) John Manusos, 72, of Newton, IA, formerly of Mason City, IA, and of Midland, TX, died Sunday December 22, 2013 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial for James will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 30, 2013, at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams, Mason City. Visitation will be held Sunday December 29, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a time for sharing of memories at 6:30 P.M., followed by a Parish Rosary at 7:00 P.M. at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, with military graveside honors conducted by members of Mason City Veterans of Foreign Wars. Jim Manusos was born on April 15, 1941, in Mason City, the son of John James and Rose (Martin) Manusos. He received his education at the Holy Family Catholic School and Mason City High School. Jim was inducted into the Marines Corps and served his country until his honorable discharge. Soon after his military service he was united in marriage to Kathy Bonte. Together they had three children, Cindy, Jay and Carrie. He worked for Sunoco for 27 years in Des Moines, IA, Stillwater, Oklahoma and Midland, Texas, retiring in 1998. Jim later married his high school sweetheart Judy (Hutzell) Lytle on April 12, 1991 in Barrington, IL. They began their new lives together in Midland, TX, moving to Alexandria, MN in 2001, and recently to Newton, IA. Jim was a faithful husband, loyal friend and devoted son; caring for his mother, Rose until her death. He was an avid sports fan, golfer and inventor. Jim is survived by his wife, Judy Manusos; his children, Cindy (Keith) Katch of Victoria, Texas, Jay Manusos of Grimes, Iowa, and Carrie Ward of McKinney, TX; his grandchildren, Elyse, Nicholas, Kelsey, Taylor and Dylan; step mother Virginia, half-sister, Nancy of Big Springs, Texas; Judy's seven children and 12 grandchildren as well as many extended family members and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose. He had a special relationship with his uncle Billy and other aunts and uncles from the Martin family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that mass be dedicated to Jim at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria, MN, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, IA, and at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church and Epiphany Parish Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, IA.
