Carl Mondy Obituary

Carl Mondy, 62, died from complications of pancreatic cancer on October 2, 2015 at his home in Odessa, Texas, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife and angel of 40 years, Judy; daughter Stacy Ramirez and husband Steven; daughter Erica Elam and husband Ryan; seven beautiful grandchildren, Anthony, Donovan and Talan Ramirez, and Riley, Chloe, Avery and Logan Elam - all of Odessa; brother Craig Mondy of Wagoner, Oklahoma; and by his sister, Cheryl Billingsley of Seguin, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Joan Mondy. Carl was born on February 24, 1953 in Sweetwater, Texas. At a young age, his family moved to Odessa. Carl graduated from Permian High School in 1971 and attended Texas Tech University. After marriage, various jobs led him from Lubbock to Illinois, Houston, and then back to Odessa. At the time of his death, he worked for Industrial Scientific Corp, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Carl loved his job and the people all over the world that it brought him in contact with. He loved to travel the world with his wife, and occasionally with good friends. He enjoyed playing golf and had the privilege of doing so in many places and with good friends. However, his greatest love was being PawPaw to his grandchildren, whom he loved more than life itself. Some of his favorite times were spent at the lake with his family, the best part being the night-time hikes with his grandkids spotting deer and other wildlife and wondering at the magnificence of the Milky Way. He was a glass-half-full kind of guy with an ever-present bright white smile and a firm handshake. His daughters especially remember their daddy's big hugs and thunderous pats on the back. He was proud of them but gave himself no credit for the wonderful women they have become. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Hubbard - Kelly Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy George and his nurse, Juanita Marrero, Kim and Kristin in the Infusion Room, and especially Rose (who always got him on the first stick) - all at the West Texas Cancer Center. They would also like to thank the many people at Home Hospice for their care in the last week of Carl's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home Hospice, 619 N. Grant, Suite 120, Odessa, TX 79761.

Memories and Condolences
for Carl Mondy

Not sure what to say?

I am saddened to here that Carl has passed away. He was a friend to many in the O&G industry. When we would run into each other it was like "old friends getting together" always wanted to know how I was and how things were going. He will be missed by many, truly a kind man. God bless you and I will be praying for you.

To Judy and family,

Carl was one of a kind; very generous and kind. I will forever remember the first day I met him. He had a presence like no other. He was genuinely a good person. In watching Carl over the last 23 years, I could see why he did so well in his career because he built true friendships and wanted to do the right thing for his customers. Another very important thing about Carl is he always talked about his family. He loved y'all very much. I can go on and on about Carl, but know that during this time of deep sadness, there are many prayers and tears shed for your family. Carl will truly be missed but not forgotten.

To Ms. Judy and Family,
Julie and I send our love and condolences from Utah. I appreciated Carl's example and leadership on a professional level and his friendship the rest of the time. He always gave us a simple way of looking at things that I appreciated.
I so wanted to come down and attend his services and see you and the family. We'll be there in heart and spirit.
All our love and prayers are with you all at this time.

Carl was one of the most genuine people I have ever met. Whatever "it" is, he had it. I tried to emulate what he said several times with people and just got crickets. He would get roaring laughter. I learned there was only one Carl Mondy and I wasn't him. There was not anything fake about him. If he said he cared, he did. If he said he was sorry he was. If he said he loved you, he did and if he called you a friend, you were. I will always miss my friend Carl Mondy and my thoughts and prayers are with his sweet Judy and the girls.

I am blessed to be able to call Carl "Big Daddy" Mondy my friend, he always made me feel that my issues were the most important issues of his day. I am pleased to have had both a professional and personal relationship with him, and know that I'm better for it. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Judy and all of his extended family during this very difficult time.

I knew Carl for over 15 years and considered him a good friend. He was the type of person that you may not see for a few years but when you did, it was like you had just left each other the day before. He was very good at his job and everything he did was in direct support of keeping people safe on their job. He is missed.

Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to Judy and the family.
When I met Carl in 1984 I remember his smile and his sense of humor. As I got to know him I saw he complimented those traits with intellect and a will to serve.
He would say "I am here to help". The first time he told me that I thought "what a sales line he has".
But it didn't take long to realize that he was sincere and truly wanted to help. He was a good friend that went beyond a business relationship. I don't think he ever met a stranger.
His smile, his laugh and his persona will be missed by many

Carl was a great mentor to me in the short period of time working together. I watched his natural ability to put people at ease and bring a smile to anyone's face - always aware of making other people comfortable. That's how I will remember Carl. Making me feel truly important at every opportunity. Selfless, Caring, Committed. Thanks Carl, laugh on good friend!
