(Gwendolyn) Yvonne Wilson, beloved wife of Phil, and mother of Phyllis, Karen, Kathy and Jimmy, went home to Jesus on February 23, 2014. Yvonne was born September 27, 1926 in Millsap, Texas to Plummer and Florence Littlefield. The family moved from Littlefield Bend to Weatherford, Texas in order to give her a better education. While a teenager, Yvonne worked at her mother's home diner and as a carhop at her uncle's drive-in. After graduating from North Texas Teachers College, she and her two best friends, who called her Yvie, moved to the hill country where she met, fell in love with and married the love of her life, Phil D. Wilson, on November 26, 1947. After several moves and babies, they settled in Midland, Texas where she taught for MISD. Though Yvonne worked primarily with 2nd graders, her career included teaching several elementary grades and at the college level. She retired only when the politics of education became more important to decision-makers than actually teaching the children. Yvonne was a member at Crestview Baptist Church, where she made many friends that she loved to get together with. She loved playing games and regularly hosted her family for Friday night dominoes and Crazy Canasta. In her retirement years, Yvonne went RVing with Phil and their Sandhills Ramblers Trailer Club. She also enjoyed watching westerns (especially Gunsmoke), reading and writing. After joining a writing club at Manor Park, she began writing her life stories and left a biographical legacy for her family, one even being published in "Ageless: Collection of Poetry and Short Stories written by Manor Park Residents, 2013." She's famous for her beetnik cake, straight cornbread, and loving and taking care of her family. We expect she is now RVing with Phil, her parents, daughter Karen Elliott, son Danny Lee, and her sister, Novelee Littlefield, who preceded her in death; along with son-in-law Deaune Elliott and daughter-in-law Dee Wilson. Yvonne is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Guinn and husband Fil of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and Kathy Steele and husband Wayne of Tucson, Arizona; a son, Jimmy Wilson of Midland, Texas; a granddaughter, Katrina Saxton and husband Chris of Midland, Texas; grandsons, SSG Daniel Cotte and wife Anita of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Ryan Steele and wife Janaye of Tucson, Arizona, Derek Steele and wife Katie of Warrenton, Oregon, Josh Wilson and Kat Lewallen of Midland, Texas, and Ethan Wilson and fiancé Chyann of Midland, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren; niece, Misty Robinson of Eastland, Texas; and by many extended family members and friends. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 pm at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Manor Park Chapel (2208 N Loop 250 W). Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Jimmy Wilson, Josh Wilson, Ethan Wilson, Wayne Steele, Dr. Fil Guinn and SSG Chris Saxton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Midland, PO Box 2621, Midland, Texas 79702 or Manor Park Employee Gift Fund, 2208 N Loop 250 W, Midland, Texas 79707-6011.
