Jane was born to Frances (Cole) Bale and Henry Bale on October 17, 1949 in Crane, Texas. She passed away peacefully at home on February 17, 2014, surrounded by friends and family. She attended Crane schools and graduated from Crane High School. She received a B.A. from Angelo State University and an M.A. from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Jane married Wayne (Woody) Woodside in Midland in 1998. Jane taught in several school districts in Texas for more than 30 years, the last being Midland ISD. She taught at Lee High School, Midland High School, and Coleman High School. Jane loved her students and they loved her. She was a wonderfully positive influence on so many young lives. Her legacy with her students lives on. Jane loved her pug dogs beyond all reason. Many of her show pugs won national awards and competed at Westminster. She bred champions and grand champions and was recognized as an American Kennel Club Breeder of Merit. One of her dogs was featured in National Geographic in 2011. Everywhere Jane went, so went her herd of pugs. She is survived by her husband, Wayne (Woody); a cousin, Charles Watkins of Phoenix, Arizona and his wife Carol; stepdaughter, Cindy and husband Ruben Madrid; and step-grandchildren, Alysia, Katlyn, Michael and Danaile Madrid. Jane is also survived by many cousins and friends. Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21 and mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, officiated by Monsignor Larry Droll of St. Ann's. Both services will be held at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Burial will follow at Crane County Cemetery, Crane, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
