Juan Madrid, 84, of Midland, passed away on September 2, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born August 29, 1930 in Colorado City, Texas to the late Eugenio and Juana Madrid. Juan met, and later married, Ruth (Cuca) Madrid on October 16, 1948 in Artesia, New Mexico. Through their union of marriage, they had four children who they raised in Midland. Juan was a brick mason contractor for 42 years. He took great pride in teaching his sons and son-in-law. His legacy continued through his grandsons. Juan's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed raising and tending to his goats. He had volunteered for many years in the Grandfather Program at West Elementary and was known as "Grandpa" by all the children. He had recently developed a special bond with his great grandson, Elijah, who was by his side to assist him in his later years. Juan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be remembered for generosity and kindness with all who surrounded him. He will be missed greatly by all his family friends. Juan was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 54 years, Ruth (Cuca) Madrid. He is survived by his loving family; Elisardo Madrid and wife Adrienne of Lehigh, Florida, Jane Petralva and husband Ernest of Midland, Sylvia Madrid of San Antonio, Texas and Johnny Madrid of Dilley, Texas; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A rosary will be held tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass is set for Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Elijah Madrid, Andres Sisneros, Manuel Madrid, Jr., Benito Madrid, Armando Madrid, Abelardo Madrid Jr., Danny Saenz, and Mark Torres. Honorary pallbearer is Blake Petralva. Funeral mass is under the direction of Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel.
