Manuela Martinez, 96, of Odessa, TX passed away on June 10, 2014. She was born in Chilicotal near Alpine, Texas, on February 19, 1918. She grew up in Ozona, Texas, working on various ranches as a housekeeper. Upon moving to Midland, Texas, she also worked as a nanny and housekeeper. She loved to cook, sew, spend time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and she was even blessed to meet and spend time with great-great grandchildren, who all lovingly called her "Granny." Manuela is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Martinez and Zapopa A. Rodriguez; brothers, Juan Martinez, Catarino Martinez, Elpidio Martinez, Fidencio Martinez, Leonel Martinez; and sisters Maria Ramirez, Elena Martinez, Teresa Garcia, and Trine Martinez. Manuela is survived by two daughters, Leonila A. Villarreal and husband Vicente Villarreal Sr. of Midland, Texas, and Rosa Sanchez (Nuncio) of Odessa, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. A rosary will be held Thursday, June 12, at 7:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home 1502 N. Lamesa Road in Midland, Texas. A mass service will be held Friday, June 13, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe 1401 Garden Lane in Midland, Texas, with Father Swamy Lakkineni officiating. Interment to be held in Ozona, Texas, at a later date. Pallbearers will be: Martin Mancha, Virgil Mancha, Jose Mancha, Joe Villarreal, Danny Villarreal, and Jeremy Sanchez. The family wishes to thank Dr. Chau Le for his care throughout the years and express the utmost gratitude to the hospice staff at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Stanton Memorial Funeral Home.
