Patrick Melton McNair of Midland, 90, was welcomed by his family in heaven on August 19, 2014, after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. Pat was born in Gainesville, Florida, to John R. and Julia Melton McNair, arriving on his parents' first wedding anniversary, March 17, 1924. After the loss of his parents at age 10, he was raised by his uncle, Will Henri "Bim" McNair, in High Springs, Florida, where he learned the automotive trade firsthand. After his high school graduation from Toccoa Falls Institute, Georgia, Pat joined the Army Air Corps, and, while stationed at Midland Army Air Field, he met the love of his life, Martha Jo Guthrie, in Andrews. They married on August 20, 1947, and attended Toccoa Falls College. After college, Pat and Martha owned the Sinclair Service Station and the Texaco Distributorship in Andrews. They moved to Midland in 1964, where Pat owned the Mobil Oil Distributorship, West Texas Bandag, Midland Dayton Tire Sales, and Odessa Tire Center. They joined First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class in 1964, where Pat served as lay speaker and Sunday school teacher. After retirement from ownership of Odessa Tire Center in 1981, Pat and Martha were active in the Commemorative Air Force, traveled in Europe, England, and Canada, and also enjoyed RV travel throughout the U.S. Pat was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John R. "Bim" McNair; and a granddaughter, Mary Kelly McNair. He is survived by his wife, Martha; son, Michael Kelly McNair and wife, Molly, of Fort Worth; daughter, Julia Leigh McNair Chatwell and husband, Richard, of Rockport; grandchildren, Martin Alexander McNair and wife, Dawn, of Willow Park, Richard Avery (Rocky) Chatwell, Jr., of Rockport, and Sarah Rose Chatwell Root and husband, Garrett, of Mountain Home AFB, Idaho; a great-granddaughter, Emma Claire Root, of Idaho; and numerous friends and extended family. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2014, at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Macky Pitts officiating. The family extends thanks to Hospice of Midland and Senior Care for their loving care of Pat in his last months. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Midland, P.O. Box 2621, Midland, Texas, 79702 or to First United Methodist Church Fellowship Class Nursing Scholarship Fund, 300 North Main Street, Midland, Texas, 79701.
