Sharon "Bobbie" Stephens Heslep McPherson passed away peacefully in Hilton Head on November 17, 2013at the age of 89. Born January 4, 1924 on a ranch outside of Rotan, Texas to Mattie Stephens Colborn, Bobbie was the proud matriarch of her family. She was a wonderful storyteller and loved to share stories about her great grandchildren to all who would listen. Bobbie fiercely protected those she loved and she deeply loved her family and so many people. She was small in stature, but her Texas-sized personality made a profound impression on everyone she met. She always gave of herself and put the needs of others well before her own. She was very bright, skipping two grades in school and entering college at the age of 16. During WWII, Bobbie was recruited out of Texas Tech University to work for the war effort. She left college her junior year and went to work for Frances Perkins, who was the U.S. Secretary of Labor and the first woman appointed to the U.S. Cabinet. Her mother and only sibling, Victor Colborn, predeceased her. Bobbie will be tremendously missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Bill Boswell; granddaughter and her husband, Shelley and Tom Hughes; and her three great grandchildren, who were the greatest joy of her life, Taylor Fusto, and Maddie and Hudson Hughes. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
