Abel Madrid Vargas, 62 of Midland, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on February 13, 2014 after a long illness at Midland Memorial Hospital. Abel was born in Midland, Texas on June 28, 1951 to the late Nicholas and Andrea Vargas. He was raised and educated in Midland and had served in the United States Marines. Abel met and later married Socorro Loera on September 3, 1983 in Midland. He had worked for the Drilco Corporation for many years until his retirement. Abel enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. He loved spending time with his loving wife. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Abel was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving family; wife Socorro L. Vargas of Midland; two daughters, Lisa Vargas and Anna Marie Vargas both of Lamesa, TX; Five grandchildren, MJ Garza, Aileen Garza, Corina Garza, Norman Garza and Ashley Garza all of Lamesa, TX and two great grandchildren, Jeremy Jace Trevino and Maliyah Ann Morales both also of Lamesa, TX. He is also survived by his two brothers, Alfonso Vargas and Martin Vargas; his sister, Aurora Vargas all of Midland; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews and cousin. Rosaries will be held at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday and Monday, February 16 & 17 both at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass is set for Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Funeral service is under the direction of Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel.
