Joe re-dedicated his life to Christ on April 15th and told his family he was ready to go to Heaven and "have a little fun." Joe graduated from Coleman High School in 1954. He was a member of the Coleman Blue Cats football team and also a Golden Gloves Boxing Champ. He went on to attend Tarleton State University where he was on the football team and also in ROTC. He began his career with Mayo Mars in Coleman, Texas as a young roughneck and through the years worked for companies such as Lane Wells, Sun Oil and Eastman-Whipstock building a reputation as the "go to man" for difficult projects. In the mid-seventies, Joe, along with Country Harris, Glen Harbert, Glen Cothrun, Lloyd Jones and Jerry Holt began DIG, Inc. Joe was employed at the time of his death with DDC, Inc. Many friendships were built during those years working in the oilfields which he truly treasured. He also made many friends over his numerous years as a Shriner. Joe is survived by his wife, Clara Thompson; his children, Janna Thompson, Robert Thompson (Star) and SueEllen Stalder (Dean); and his grandchildren, Connor Thompson, Holt Thompson, Mackey McCommon, Tyler McCommon, Andrew Stalder, Hope Stalder and Brant Stalder.
