Wanda "Jo" Hankla Hale, 81, of Midland, Texas passed away on April 25, 2014. Jo was born on July 17, 1932 in Midland, Texas and graduated from Midland High School with the class of 1950. Forrest B. "Top" Hale married Jo Hankla on November 12, 1953 and they have been married for 60 years. Jo worked as a PBX (Switch Board) Operator in the oil industry and also numerous years in the banking industry. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to all. In her younger years, she was an avid bird hunter and would get her bag limit before most fired the first shell out of their shotgun and she taught her daughters well to be good bird dogs. She also spent a lot of time with her daughters teaching them to be good homemakers and fishing with her parents, Top and the girls at Brownwood Lake. In her later years, she loved helping Top with his garden that we affectionately called the "A&M Project" because they fed many elderly and less fortunate individuals. The Midland Soup Kitchen and Meals on Wheels loved to see them driving in with ice chests full of fresh vegetables. Her other passion was dancing, especially when her youngest daughter, Amy Lou, was playing in the band. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon E. Hankla and Ola Belle Weigart Hankla; and by a daughter, Amy Lou Hale. She is survived by her husband Top; daughters, Bonny Jane Gibson and husband Jeff, Sarah Belle Pool and Leasa Jo Freeman and husband Rick; grandchildren, Amanda Burnum and husband Ron, Cody Davis and wife Stephanie and SSgt. Jordan Lloyd and husband TSgt. Scott Lloyd of the United States Air Force; great grandsons, Jake Davis (Mother-Holly King) and Asher Davis. Jo is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends. Pallbearers will be Ron Burnum, TSgt. Scott Lloyd, Michael R. Hale, Tommy Scott, Jim Hazlett and Kenny Boucher. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hale, Charles Hale, Stacy Hale, Tommy Hale, Cody Davis, Dan Lawyer, Nelson Scott, Jody Nix, Larry Nix and Terry Bates.
