Our mother, Su Hellinghausen, passed away on May 21, 2014, at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born July 23, 1926, to Alton and Clarence Derrick in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa in 1945, where she was Homecoming Queen. She attended the University of Tulsa where she majored in religious studies. She married Robert F. Hellinghausen on January 5, 1946, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Tulsa. The young couple moved to Monahans, Texas, in 1947 to open a store in West Texas for Cen-Tex Supply Company, Inc., which was started in Breckenridge, Texas by William G. "Peck" Hellinghausen. She thought she had moved to "the end of the world" having lived in Tulsa all her life, but she grew to love the people of Monahans and made many good friends. Mrs. Hellinghausen was very active with St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Monahans, where she was a member of the Altar Society. She was instrumental in implementing the beautification of the newly built church by spending many hours planting flowers, shrubs and trees. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, PTA, and served on the board for The Monahans Sandhills State Park. She loved cooking, gardening, reading, and was an amazing mother. The family moved to Midland in August, 1968, opening another office for Cen-Tex Supply Company, Inc. Mrs. Hellinghausen was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. Mrs. Hellinghausen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years, her daughter Stephanie Jill Mc Daniel, and her grandson Robert Kendall Belcher, II. She is survived by her children, Greg Hellinghausen of Austin, Texas, Sonia Belcher, Hillary Hellinghausen, Sid Crouch and husband Jim, all of Midland, and Marc Hellinghausen and wife Shelli of Belton, Texas; her sister, Sonia Derrick Atyia and husband Haney of New Braunfels, Texas. She has 12 grandchildren and 19 great grand-children; numerous nieces and nephews.
