James "Jimmy" Walter Brock was born on October 10, 1930, in Weatherford, Texas and passed away on May 23, 2014, in Midland, Texas. Jimmy went to school in Kermit and graduated in 1948; he continued his education and played football for Ranger Junior College, University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Jimmy was a bull rider while he was in college. He was known as "Little Rock Brock" from "Gunsite, Texas". Jimmy worked in various jobs in the West Texas oilfields in the early days of his career. Through his hard work and determination, he created Mid-Tex Construction and Mid-West Equipment of Odessa. He later established Brock Oil and Gas in Midland which he operated at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, M.W. and Myrtle Lee Brock of Kermit and eldest son, James W. Brock, Jr. of Midland. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Jordan Brock; son, Lindy Brock of Kerrville; daughter, Kristen Grulke of Austin; stepdaughter, Brandi Rider of Georgetown and stepson, Brandt Jordan of Katy. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his sister, Linda Knight, three nieces of Kermit; Jean Gallagher of Kerrville, mother of his children plus countless friends. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the American Legion Woods Lynch Post 19 in Midland from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Jimmy Brock Memorial Domino Tournament, and sent to American Legion Woods Lynch Post 19, c/o Ed Handley, 501 Veterans Airpark Lane, Midland, Texas, 79705.
