Lonna Kathleen Winkler Wise of San Angelo, formerly of Midland, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014, following a short battle with cancer. She was 95 and would have been 96 on August 9. She was born in 1918 in Big Sandy, Texas, to Frank and Zora Winkler, the fourth of 11 children. She married Claude Wise in October of 1940 in Midland and had two children. She was a loving daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, babysitter, friend, and caregiver, with a witty, dry sense of humor. She never learned to ride a bicycle but she could drive anybody's car, and she said she was going to stay out of the water until she learned to swim. Her care giving started with her younger siblings and babysitting began just after leaving high school a year early because the teacher could not teach the final year. She was caregiver to her parents and a sibling, and babysitting continued with nieces, nephews, and friends, as well as 14 years in day care. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Richard, and her husband Claude, as well as siblings and in-laws, Ovie Kennedy (Travis), Leonard (Mary), Duward, Troy, Joe, and other in-laws Nell Winkler, Lenora Winkler, Bobbie Winkler, Dora Winkler, and Houston Glover. Surviving to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her daughter, Mary Allen and husband, Clyde, of San Angelo; siblings, Zella Glover, of North Little Rock, Arkansas; Raymond, of Midland; Billy, of Odessa; Adon, of Temple; Gaylon, of Monahans; sisters-in-law Gurtha Winkler, Belton, and Su-An Winkler, all of San Angelo. Also surviving are grandchildren, Clyde (Chip) Allen, Jr. (Cindy), of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Mark Allen (Jill), of Austin; and Adrianne Mercer (Terry), of San Antonio; great grandchildren, Chris (Cassie) Allen, Kay (L.T.) Kincannon, all of Missouri; Marianne Hubnic, of Odessa, and Hollie Hubnic, Matthew and Cameron Mercer, all of San Antonio; and great-great grandchildren, Raven, Lilly, and Henry Allen, and Liam Kincannon, all of Missouri; and daughter-in-law Mary Nell Hubnic and Jeffrey and Daniel Walden of Odessa. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted by Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home at Resthaven Memorial Park, Midland, Texas, on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, San Angelo, Texas, at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in honor of her love of children, memorials may be made to Sierra Vista United Methodist Church Children's Ministries, 4522 College Hills Blvd., San Angelo, Texas 76904, or a dedicated to children. Her passing has left a hole which we must fill with our numerous wonderful and treasured memories.
