Dorothy Cox Obituary

Dorothy Barron Cox, 85, of Midland, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2015. She will be available for viewing from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, and Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2015. Dorothy was born on August 11, 1930 in Midland, Texas to Ralph M. Barron and Lucille Barron. The Barron family was a pioneer Midland family. Ralph Barron was associated with the later Midland National Bank for 50 years and was President for 30 years. Lucille was a founder of the Pallet Club. Dorothy's grandparents were Reeves and Rosa Lee Barron, founders of the First Baptist Church of Midland. Dorothy attended Midland public schools. She had a wonderful and privileged childhood. She attended Texas Tech College in Lubbock and married Dean Cox on April 28, 1950. They were married 55 years. The Cox children, Suzanne, Russell, and Sandra, were all born and raised in Midland. Dorothy accepted Christ when she was 12 years old and was active in her church even as a youth. She taught Sunday School many years, from Beginners to Young People. She was Superintendent of her Departments and was recognized for her outstanding teachers' meetings. She served on several committees and was active in WMU and Training Union for many years. She always remarked that her roots were in her church. She left Midland in 1973 when her husband Dean took a job in the Middle East in Dubai, U.A.E. that began their travels for several years to come. They lived in Dubai, U.A.E., London, England, Aberdeen, Scotland, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, and spent short stays in many other countries, ending up in Houston and then back to Midland in 1984. Her latest interest was preserving Fairview Cemetery - a historical cemetery in Midland where she is to be buried. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Royer and her husband, Robert Royer and their children Evangeline and Jason Curbo, Colin and Courtney Royer and their son, Noah; son, Russell Barron Cox; and daughter, Sandra Corrigan and her children Mason and Danielle Shepard and their children Kynadee, Caralyne, and Turner Shepard, Collie Corrigan and Ryan Corrigan; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean B. Cox; and her sister; Marjorie Barron Hill. The family would like to express their gratitude toward all the staff at Manor Park for their love and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church at 2104 W. Louisiana, Midland, Texas 79701. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
