Spc. Robert James "R.J." Volker, 21, of Big Spring, died on Wednesday, December 20, 2006, while serving his country in Iraq. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Felty, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

He was born on August 7, 1985, in Big Spring, Texas and married Martha Ramsey on April 7, 2006 in Belton, Texas.

Robert was a 2003 graduate of Big Spring High School where he played the french horn in the Steer Band. He attended UTI where he graduated the auto body repair course in 2004. Robert worked at the Big Spring Collision Center before joining the United States Army September 22, 2005. He served his country during the Iraq war where he was awarded the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. He volunteered to serve his country and for this mission. Robert was a loving son, brother, husband, friend, patriot and a hero.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Volker of Big Spring; his parents, Robert and Melissa Volker of Big Spring; one brother Johnathan Volker of DDG USS Roosevelt, Mayport, Florida; his grandparents, Jim and Gloria Roe and Chuck and Janet Frank all of Big Spring; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, James Drury; grandfather, Henry Drury; mother-in-law, Mary Johnson; father-in-law, Larry Ramsey, and a sister-in-law, Susan Ramsey.
