Edward Nestor Obituary

Edward William Nestor, 87, of Midland passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2007 in Midland, Texas. He was born to Edward William Nestor and Elizabeth A. Eareckson on February 19, 1920 in Lykens, PA.

He served in the U. S. Army from 1941-1945. He married Jeanne (Gabosch) Nestor on February 14, 1942 in Myrtle Beach, VA, she preceded him in death on July 28, 1999. He was reared and educated in Lykens, PA, and he graduated from Penn State as Petroleum Engineering in 1941. He was employed with Shell Oil Co. for 39 years in Midland, Texas as a Petroleum Engineer, and The Hague, New York and New Orleans.

He was a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers and Knights of Columbus and he served as a Lector and Extraordinary Minister at St. Ann's Catholic Church.

Survivors include children, Sharon Hughes (Mike), Edward W. Nestor, III, (Liz), Patricia Ann Kerth, and Kerry John Nestor (Phoebe); grandchildren, Kimberly Cudd (Robert), Michael Hughes (Brandi) Jeremy Kerth (Kelly) Matt Nestor, Joseph Nestor, Andrew Nestor, Laura Nestor, and Kara Nestor, and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nacogdoches, Texas Saturday, October 13, 2007, Rev. Msgr James E. Young officiated. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael Hughes, Robert Cudd, Jeremy Kerth, Matt Nestor, Andrew Nestor, Mike Hughes.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Midland. The family would like to thank the staff at Parks Methodist Retirement; Saddle Ridge Lodge Assisted Living; Dr. David Watkins and Staff and Earnest Villanueva.

Ed Nestor will live on in the memories of all who knew him--a true "gentle" man and a faithful soul. It was a privilege to know him and to share membership in the Secular Franciscan family with him.

Ed was always such a gentle, generous, and courteous soul. It was a pleasure to have had him as a friend in Nacogdoches, and as a companion in Heaven! As a Secular Franciscan, Ed was truely one who took our Rule of Life seriously, going from Gospel to Life and back again in humility, strength, and Joy! Both He and Jeanne were treasures of Nacogdoches!

Ed Nestor was also a Secular Franciscan since the early 1950's. He was an example of the life of St. Francis, walking the prayer daily. He attended EVERY funeral at our church, attended mass EVERY day, ALWAYS gave me a hug. We missed him when he moved to Midland. Our prayer for his family is to hold Ed's peace in their hearts.
