Don was born June 17, 1922, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2012 at the age of 89. He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie Mactaggart; brother Howard Mactaggart; parents Orpha and Archibald Mactaggart; two brothers in infancy, Murray and Howard's twin brother, Harold Mactaggart. Don is survived by his children Allan Mactaggart (Natalie), Joni Spani (Chuck); brother Garnet Mactaggart; grandchildren Carl Spani (Stephanie), Teresa Spani, Kirsten Mactaggart and Brian Mactaggart; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Eric Brisco and the wonderful staff at Evergreen House for the compassionate care provided to Don during the past 3 years.

Don was raised on the family farm east of McTaggart, Saskatchewan. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1942 to 1946 as a wireless technician. Don married Marge on January 31, 1948 and lived in several communities throughout BC, Alberta and the NWT. They bought their North Vancouver home in 1971, where they enjoyed living for many years after his retirement in 1982. Don started work as a repeater station attendant for Canadian National Telegraphs and worked his way up through various positions in the company until he retired as a senior manager with NorthWesTel . He enjoyed curling, golfing, gardening, camping with Marge in their trailer, playing bridge with their friends, and was active in church choirs. Don will be remembered for his love of family, neighbours and community. He was a very caring man who touched all he came in contact with.

A service will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 2:00pm at St. Clement's Anglican Church, 3400 Institute Road, North Vancouver. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's memory to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation earmarked for Evergreen House 2 North.
