MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Roger Lee Upchurch, 66, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at his home. He was born in Carroll County, Va., on Nov. 4, 1946, to the late Early and Nellie Kirby Upchurch. Mr. Upchurch was retired from Save-A-Lot Food Store as a manager and was a charter member of Friendly Tabernacle. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Chad Brown of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Dana Upchurch of Belews Creek; six grandchildren, Amanda and husband Mitchell, Taylor and wife Bre, Sarah, Kristin, Bailee and Rebekah; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Ellie and Will; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Phillip Edmonds and Carolyn and Jimmy Hodges, all of Mount Airy; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Billie Upchurch of Collinsville, Va., and Michael and Terri Upchurch of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Upchurch was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Edmonds Upchurch; and a brother, Gleathern Upchurch. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Clement officiating. Burial will follow in Edwards-Upchurch Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
